Jesse Brouwer
Biography
As a pianist, singer, composer and improviser, I connect original music with projects in which people create together. Improvisation runs through all of my work.
The story.
My studies at the Popacademie and the Musician 3.0 programme at HKU laid the foundation for a varied practice as a performer, creator and facilitator of musical processes.
In original compositions, I explore a personal connection between words and sound. On stage, I respond to the audience and the moment. With groups, I combine artistic direction with space for participants’ ideas and strengths.
Alongside my concert practice, I am artistic director and trainer at Tune In and Het Geluid van Overvecht. With Benjamin de Boer, I develop MEEMAKERS at the intersection of music, connection and health.
I have worked with, among others, Het Concertgebouw, TivoliVredenburg, BIMHUIS, Lister, Cultuur19, Buitenkunst and Boom Chicago. Kobranie — conducted improvisation with a group — is also part of my experience.
This experience spans comedy, choral music and neoclassical piano. Musical freedom, attention and collaboration are central in every setting.
